Any consignment purchase means you have read and agree with these policies.
1: THE ITEMS: The items listed in consignments sections 1, 2 and 3 are items I have been asked to sell (on consignment) by folks in the Civil War reenactment community -
* individual reenactors
* unit quartermasters
* sutlers clearing out excess "new old stock" and
* people who sew privately and need an outlet for their wares.
I have been providing this service since 1976 - first by newsletter and then on the web in 1996. All items are strictly REPRODUCTION. Some items are brand new and others used. As can be seen in the listings I try to be as detailed in my descriptions as I can and post photos when possible. I accept for consignment all Civil War related items EXCEPT for firearms (various legal reasons) and ladies civilian clothing and accessories (too size and fashion specific). I will consider vivandiere uniforms though because they're military specific.
2: HOLDS:
If you see something you can't live without, call or e-mail me with the ITEM NAME and NUMBER and I will put it on HOLD for you. Such holds ("sale pending") are maintained for seven (7) business days to allow time for your payment to arrive. If I do not hear from the potential buyer at the end of the seven working day hold period, (the clock starts ticking when I get the call or e-mail to put the item on hold) the hold is removed and the item returned to active listing.3: PAYMENT:
Sorry, I'm not set up for credit cards, PayPal, etc., nor do I ship C.O.D. However, money orders or personal checks are welcome. PLEASE NOTE:PERSONAL CHECKS are held to clear (the clearing process could take up to TEN business (working) days) before the item can be shipped.
MONEY ORDERS allow for shipping within 24 hours after receipt. So if you're in a hurry for your item please use a money order. Money orders are available at any bank or post office and are also available at many convenience stores.
Please make payment (check or money order) out to "STONY BROOK COMPANY".
I regret that I cannot maintain credits accounts, lay-aways or partial payments on any item. The majority of sellers who utilize the consignments service do so with one sole purpose - to sell their items as promptly as possible hence first come, first served.
4: SHIPPING: Once payment is received (and cleared in the case of checks) I will ship the item within 24 hours. I principally use PRIORITY MAIL unless the buyer specifically requests UNITED PARCEL SERVICE. Occasionally I will select UPS to ship an item if the item is exceptionally large or heavy (such as tentage, bulk purchases, etc.). Very small or very lightweight items are usually sent via FIRST CLASS MAIL. I try to calculate the best shipping option/price for the item and those shipping fees are always posted right after the item price. Shipping rates shown on these pages are for the continental United States. However, I do ship to CANADA but ask my Canadian friends to please contact me for specific shipping rates. I always combine shipping on multiple purchases for the benefit of the buyer. Finally, if any special shipping arrangement is requested (either stateside or Canada) and it incurs additional shipping fees, these are worked out with the buying customer prior to concluding the transaction.
5: RETURNS: Please play it safe - “If it doesn’t fit, don’t force it!”. Any item certainly may be returned SO LONG AS it has NOT been worn, altered, retailored, or abused in ANY WAY! Stony Brook Company alone will make that final determination! Some gents have asked me if this last remark is really necessary. In answer to that all I can say is "Brother, you'd be surprised what I get back sometimes and people expect a refund on it!!" If any item comes back to me the same way I sent it out, a STONY BROOK COMPANY refund check will be promptly issued for the purchase price of the item itself; NOT including any shipping fees either initial or return. IF YOU HAVE TO RETURN AN ITEM it is a very good idea to get insurance on it for its full value! Delivery Confirmation is another great idea especially if you do not insure your return! REMEMBER, I am always glad to issue a refund for the items purchase price - but I cannot issue a refund on something I do not receive! If an INSURED item that is being returned is lost or damaged you as the sender have to file the claim with the SHIPPER (Post Office, UPS, FexEx, DHL, etc); I cannot do it from this end.
6: PRE-PURCHASE INSPECTION: Sorry, I cannot ship anything that has not been paid for. If you purchase an item and it is unsatisfactory for any reason, it can be sent back as per our RETURNS policy above.

The sleeves are plain and do not have the roll-back cuffs. Two rear tapered adjustment belts and a rear belt retaining loop. Belts have a two button hole/one button adjustment. FROCK COAT; C.S. MAJOR/COLONEL; #NC1562. Made in a Ben Tart gray wool this size 52 C.S.
field grade officer's frock coat has seen some service but evidently not much as it is in
beautiful condition inside and out!! Double breasted body with two rows (7 buttons
per row) of U.S. Staff officer pattern buttons. The tails feature scalloped cut facings with three
large U.S. Staff officer buttons per. The sleeves do not have functioning cuffs but do have three
small decorative U.S. Staff officer on each. Each sleeve has three rows of HAND SEWN metallic
gold trim for field grade rank. Other than for this gold trim the frock coat is PLAIN (no color
trim) and hence will fit any branch of service application. Inside we find the upper half lined
in a light brown cotton while the lower half (the skirt) is lined in an olive green/maroon/blue
striped cotton shirting. The sleeves are cut with period correct full elbows and "gathered" shoulders
(... not to get fancy on folks but this gathering is known in the tailoring trade as "en gigot'"
shoulders. Fancy huh? :-). The sleeves are lined in a medium weight off-white colored cotton
fabric. There are two internal entry (through the lining) tail pockets and a horizontal cut pocket
in the upper left breast lining. Speaking of the breast lining, it is padded and HAND quilted.
Button holes are hand sewn and the sleeve linings around the arm holes are hand sewn.
The bottom hem of the coat is turned under and sewn to the skirt lining. Made by Galla Rock.

Some addition measurements are:
COLLAR: 22 1/2" (counting the 1 1/2" gap in the front)
WAIST: Will fit individual with up to 46/48" waist

BACK LENGTH 46" (from base of collar)
CS. "ARTILLERY" FIELD GRADE OFFICER'S FROCK COAT; #KF2555. This C.S. "artillery" officer's
frock coat is BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN. It originally came with BUFF wool collar and cuffs but
the owner covered them in red wool. HOWEVER, the red wool can be very easily removed to expose
the original buff wool collar and cuffs again. In the photo "RED WOOL OVER BUFF FACINGS" I clipped
a couple hand stitches and pulled away some of the red wool covering inside one of the cuffs to
show this. I will retack it in place if the coat sells as artillery. Size is 42 in the chest
with a 24 1/2" sleeve (edge of shoulder the bottom edge of cuff) and fits waist size up to 38" confortably.
Made in a medium weight cadet gray wool. Double breasted front (7 per side) with two button cuffs.
Body buttons are 7/8" "CSA" with the cuff buttons being small 1/2" "CSA"s. The tails of this frock
feature scalloped facings and there are three 7/8" "CSA" buttons per side. The sleeves feature three
rows of gold colored soutache braid for field grade (major to colonel) rank. The sleeve braid is
NOT metallic bullion wire. I would guess that it is either cotton or a synthetic blend. In the relm
of all things "sutler row", the braid doesn't look bad - looks like dull bullion at a distance.
To be sure as I've see a LOT worse come outta sutler's row. This frock is fully lined in a blue check
fabric in both the body and sleeves. No tail pockets but there is an internal left breast pocket
in the lining. Coat body and lining are hemmed together across the bottom.
NOTE: If the coat sells with it's artillery trim left on, we can change out the large
(large only) CSA buttons for large Block "A" buttons for $15.00 total. We do not have any small
block "A" buttons to do the cuffs. ALSO: the
red wool trim can be removed and any other branch of service color wool substituted
in it's place - just like the seller did with the red over the buff.

C.S. ARTILLERY ROUNDABOUT. #MD6377 This jacket is USED but is in VERY GOOD condition. Size is 52. Made in a medium weight light gray wool with red standing collar and pointed cuffs. Lined on the inside with unbleached muslin in both body and sleeve. Nine 7/8" CSA buttons down the front. No buttons on the cuffs. There are some very minor service stains here and there on the lining but nothing major. There is also a small repair by the internal left breast pocket in the lining but again nothing major. The sleeve linings seem to be just touch longer than the sleeve themselves so a little of the lining shows below the cuff line when worn. However, a few quick tacks inside the sleeves should take care of that minor problem. Other than that, the jacket is in fine shape and ready to go back to the field. Some additional measurements are:
WAIST: 51" (that's off the coat so will fit individual with up to a 48" waistline comfortably)
COLLAR: 24" (including the front gap)
SLEEVE: 23" (arm length - outer edge of the shoulder to the cuff)
FRONT LENGTH: 21" (down the front, base of collar to the bottom of the jacket)
Maker unknown. Has the look of a Jarnagin or QM Shop item but I'm positive it's not a product
from either of those shops. There's a tag on the inside but it's illegible. Photos up soon.

C.S. BUTTERNUT ROUNDABOUT. #PM4800 .This basic pattern size 48 Short roundabout has
been worn only a couple times so it is in EXCELLENT physical condition inside and out. The
only damage we can find to the coat is a tiny pinhole near the center back and some light areas
of fade on the body. These areas of fade are light enough that we didn't even notice it upon our
first inspection of the coat. Only after we started taking the photos did we see it. However, it
isn't anything major and certainly does not detract from the jacket. This jacket is made in a medium
weight camel colored wool. It is entirely machine sewn including buttonholes and features a standing
collar (without hook & eye), plain tube style sleeves, a six button front, internal left breast
pocket plus unbleached muslin body and sleeve linings. Save for some very very light sweat stains
right at the bottom edge of the sleeve linings at the cuffs, this jacket shows no signs of wear
whatsoever. Four piece body and one piece sleeves. Untrimmed and without epaulettes or belt loops.

PLEASE NOTE: The waist measurements on ANY trousers listed on this page are
"WAIST AT NAVEL LEVEL" (that high up). This is not necessarily the same waist size found on your
blue jean size tags. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WAIST SIZE AT NAVEL LEVEL
to insure the trousers you order fit satisfactorily. Three minutes
taken to check this measurement may save you all the hassle of reboxing the trousers, the hike to
the post office or UPS to ship them back, paying shipping and insurance charges, etc. as well as
time lost if you needed the trousers in a hurry.
A lot of guys ask "Why are a lot of your trousers on consignment?" The answer is simple and regrettable - a lot of guys who order new trousers do not follow the simple instructions on this website for taking ACTUAL "off-the-body" measurements; particularly the waist measurement. They guess at it or use the size tag info off jeans. While the size tag info can work for length, when it comes to waist sizing on Victorian era style trousers, 75% of the time (or better) the waist size given on jeans size tags will NOT work. Jeans are cut much differently than Victorian era (CW) trousers. So because instruction were not followed, trousers come back and wind up on consignment. The most regrettable part of this for all parties involved is that the gentleman has to reorder (repurchase) a new pair of trousers plus starting the production waiting process all over again - all the while waiting for his old pair to sell so he can recoup his original purchase funds. All of this could have been avoided just for the sake of taking a couple minutes to get an actual off-the-body waist at navel level measurement with a tape measure. So it is with buying trousers listed on consignment - if anything at least PLEASE take an actual measurement of your waist size AT NAVEL LEVEL using a vinyl tape measure. We want to make sure you're happy with the fit of your purchase but 100% of insuring the size rests in the hands of the buyer. Now if this measurement stuff gets confusing, no sweat ... call (315-343-1557) or e-mail me and we can sort it all out in short order. :-) All WAIST measurements on the trousers listed below (or found elsewhere on this site) are all with the rear waistband split TIED CLOSED. :-)

New Listing TROUSERS; U.S. DARK BLUE FOOT PATTERN. #BF8558. These DARK BLUE Schuylkill Arsenal pattern trousers are BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN and are available in the sizes 32" waist to 54" waist. Inseams have not yet been set to any length and are currently "long/unhemmed". However, we can set the inseam length to buyers specifications (utilizing a rolled machine hemmed cuff) at no charge. These trousers were made by Stony Brook Company (using Woolrich 85/15% BLEND wool) in their “Commercial Grade” standard (principally machine sewn but with hand sewn button holes, and hand tacking on the pocket corners, rear waistband split - and cuff splits if we set cuffs for the buyer). Side seam pattern pockets and a right side SA pattern watch pocket. Split rear waistband with tie-back cord. Brown polished cotton left side fly panels and a white cotton drill right side fly panel. White cotton drill pockets and waistband facings. Buttons are tin faced paperback and there are seven medium sized ones on the waistband and five small ones in the fly.
U.S. (or C.S.) INFANTRY OFFICER ROYAL BLUE TROUSERS; #RZ3327:
These royal blue Infantry officer trousers are BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN and measure 44"
waist x unfinished" length. We can alter the waist and set the inseam length upon buyer's
request at NO extra charge to the buyer (the seller indicates he will cover those expenses). Made
by Stony Brook Company in their "museum grade" standard (machine-sewn main seams but extensive
hand finishing on the inside including hand sewn button holes, hand felled waistband and fly facings,
hand felled pocket facings and if we hem the cuffs, they will be rolled and hand-hemmed. Made in
a royal blue Woolrich blend wool and the color for these
trousers is based off an original pair of U.S. officer trousers that were in the former Lee Museum
in Gettysburg.
I took a photo
of the uniform (IDed to a Pennsylvania officer) hanging up on display (let's go back to 1979) and
part of the trousers clearly show under the frock coat thus verifying their color. Oh yes, these
repros were made last year, not in 1979 when I took the pic. LOL! So these repro officer trousers
are thus based on the COLOR and not specifically the pattern of those originals. The cut
and details of these repros are generic officer and it was the color that the original buyer
was after. The top entry pockets, scalloped cut watch pocket, etc. were details he specifically
requested.
Therefore, these trousers are cut in the usual officer pattern (heavy on civvy features) being cut with solid one-piece left
and right rear trouser panels (no rear upper panels or yokes as found on enlisted man's trousers).
Additional features are top entry ("mule ear") pattern pockets, scalloped cut watch pocket set into
the top edge of the right side waistband and a DARK BLUE
wool welt running the length of each outerseam. Split rear waistband with two rear adjustment belts
and black enameled buckle. White cotton drill pockets, waistband facings and right side fly facing.
The left side fly facing is black POLISHED cotton. There are seven medium sized black stipple tin
buttons on the waistband and five small ones in the fly. A very nice and fairly distictive pair of
officer trousers that will work for both a Federal and Confederate infantry officer's impression.
The seller also has a second pair available (but they are not here at the shop). Same as above but
with vertical side seam pattern pockets.

They are cut as a 44" waist but we can resize up to 46" or down to any smaller size
as well as set the inseam length to any size. Price below is for these trousers in FINISHED
condition and ready to wear right out of the box. These trousers were under the needle at
Stony Brook as a "museum grade" standard pair (machine-sewn main seams but to have extensive hand
finishing on the inside including hand sewn button holes and hand-felled cuffs). Fabric is
dark blue Woolrich blend wool and they are cut in the usual officer pattern (heavy on civvy
features) with solid one-piece left and right rear trouser panels (no rear upper panels or
yokes as found on enlisted man's trousers), side seam pattern pockets, scalloped cut watch
pocket set into the top edge of the right side waistband and a split rear waistband with two

C.S. CHARCOAL GRAY WOOL TROUSERS. #NC1877. Made in a Woolrich charcoal gray wool these
size 46 x 32" trousers have seen their share of field service but are still in solid
serviceable condition. No physical damage (rips, tears, repairs). Just a couple small stains here
and there on the body and a small stain on the upper rear thigh (see second photo set). All in all
though nothing major. There is a patch on one knee but NO damage. I asked the owner about that and
he advised me that this was done simply for the visuals. His unit had to look a little ragged for
an event so the guys worked up the appropriate appearance with some fellows just sewing on some
arbitrary patches as one method. So this patch is easily removed with no damage beneath. Made by
Stony Brook Company in their "commercial grade" standard (all machine sewn except for hand sewn
button holes plus hand sewn bar tacks at the pocket corners and rear waistband split) with two
rear adjustment belts with brass buckle, side seam pattern pockets, rolled machine hemmed cuffs
and a right side watch pocket. Light brown polished cotton left side fly panels and a white cotton
drill right side fly panel. Pocket and waistband facings are white cotton drill as well. Buttons
are gray pewter and there are seven on the waistband and five small ones in the fly. Oh yes, these
trousers had an NCO stripe sewn down the side seams at one time. No remnant "shadow" or anything
like that remaining but some of the treads still remain here and there (but are easily picked out).

UNIFORM SET: C.S. JEAN WOOL JACKET & TROUSERS. #PM3865 This lightweight dark gray jean wool uniform set (privately made by the owner) consists of a roundabout and a pair of trousers. Size is: JACKET - 48/50. TROUSERS - 42" waist x 28" length. The trousers have some very light use but the jacket is brand new, never worn. Here's a breakdown per item:
JACKET: Made in a lightweight dark gray jean wool (like a "salt & pepper" color or effect - see photos). This jacket is machine-sewn on the main seams but features hand sewn details. There is hand sewing in the arm holes (sleeve linings to body lining), hand felling along the base of the collar to body lining, hand top stitching around the jacket edges, hand top stitching around the collar and hand sewn buttonholes. Jacket also features a short standing collar without hook & eye, six 3/4" block "I" button front and a horizontal cut internal left breast pocket. Jacket is made with a 4 panel body and 2 piece sleeves. No buttons on the cuffs. Here is some additional jacket sizing information.
COLLAR: 23"
TROUSERS:
Made in a lightweight dark gray jean wool (like a "salt & pepper" color or effect - see photos).
Size is 42" waist x 28" inseam. Just to mention it there isn't enough extra fabric rolled
up in the cuffs to allow for any lengthening of the inseam. These trousers are used but in overall
GREAT SHAPE. The only problem I can find on these trousers is a small hole developing by the left
pocket (see photo in "DETAILS" set). Unbleached muslin used for pockets and all facings. These
trousers are unlined and are principally machine-sewn. However, they do feature hand sewn
button holes plus hand topstitching on the top entry "mule ear" pattern pockets. No watch pocket.
Rolled and hand-hemmed cuffs. Buttons are 1/2" natural bone and there are seven on the waistband
and four in the fly. These trousers also feature two rear adjustment belts with buckle.
