U.S. FOUR BUTTON SACK COAT: Sale Pending  #ES4699 This size 46/48 sack coat has been used and has a few small (tiny) holes scattered about here and there. This coat also has a fair amount of fade on it and some extensive staining on the sleeve linings (from where it was damp when put into storage). However, this coat has been freshly dry cleaned and is ready to go back into service. Made in a dark blue wool flannel with a distinct twilled effect. Not sure what pattern this blouse is (it's definitely not a J.T. Martin and I do not believe it's Schuylkill Arsenal) but it does have a Cincinnati Depot inspectors stamp in it plus early way four dot sizing (although this sack coat is larger than an issue size four (which is a 42). Body is four piece - collar is 4 piece and the sleeves are two piece. Cuffs have a shallow split and the falling collar has rounded edges. It is lined in the body in a light brown medium weight twilled cotton with muslin sleeve linings. Front facings have a very slight taper and there is an internal left breast pocket in the lining. This coat is principally machine sewn but does have hand felling along the base of the collar (on the inside) and around the body/sleeve linings (at the arm holes). Button holes are hand sewn. On the front are four 3/4" U.S. general service eagles. Two are original to the coat and two are replacements. Maker unknown but there is speculation that this is a very early C.J. Daley sack coat. While this blouse does have it's drawbacks (as outlined above) it is still very solid and ready to go back on the firing line.

U.S. FOUR BUTTON SACK COAT: Sale Pending  #ES2974 This size 38 Short sack coat has been used and could use a little needle work here and there. It has a small tear on the underneath of the left sleeve, a second tear right under the right side outside pocket, a very tiny hole on the right breast and the right outside pocket has some broken stitches that need to be redone. Also, this coat has a fair amount of fade on it in spots. Made in a dark blue wool flannel with distinct twilled effect. Pattern reflects the J.T. Martin style since it had the multi-piece back collar panel and shallow split cuffs. It is lined in the body in a light brown wool flannel and has a green/tan check FHW cotton shirting used for the sleeve linings. Tapered front facings which are pieced (by design) on the inside. Internal left breast pocket plus two outside "patch" style pockets (which are original to the coat). These outside pockets are sewn on by hand. There is a small hook & eye in the collar. This coat is principally machine-sewn but does have nicely done hand sewn button holes and a hand felled collar (on the inside). Four 3/4" U.S. general service eagles on the front. Maker unknown but I'm pretty positive this is a C.J. Daley sack coat. PLEASE NOTE This coat is classified as a SHORT because the sleeve (arm) length measures 22 1/2". Please measure your arm length to insure the sleeves will be long enough for you.

U.S. FOUR BUTTON SACK COAT: #ES9283 This size 38/40 Short UNLINED sack coat has been used but remains in EXCELLENT physical condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc). However, like the sack coat above this blouse has some areas of fade on it as well. It also has some field stains on various parts (mostly in the back) but nothing a trip to the dry cleaners can't take care of. Made in a dark blue wool flannel (without the twilled effect). I cannot immediately identify the pattern but it has a four piece collar, a 4 piece body and shallow cuff splits. The coat is entirely machine sewn except for hand sewn button holes. It is UNLINED and all the seams in both body and sleeves have been rolled and machine felled. Dark gray wool flannel left breast pocket. Four 3/4" U.S. general service eagles on the front. PLEASE NOTE This coat is classified as a SHORT because the sleeve (arm) length measures 22". Please measure your arm length to insure the sleeves will be long enough for you.

U.S. FOUR BUTTON SACK COAT: #RN6635 This size 38 John Wedeward made J.T. Martin pattern sack coat has been used but remains in EXCELLENT condition! The only signs of wear are some areas of "pulling" along the button hole line and some scuffs on the wool here and there. This blouse is made from an indigo shade of dark blue wool flannel and is lined in a tan wool flannel. The sleeves lined in muslin. This jacket is machine sewn on the main seams but has hand felling around the sleeve liners plus hand sewn button holes. This sack coat also features a hand felled six-piece collar common to the Martin blouses as well as the shallow cuff splits and an internal left breast pocket. Four 3/4" U.S. general service eagle buttons down the front. Tapered front facings as per originals. Coat is sewn in dark blue thread. Some gents have inquired as to why I have classified this coat as a 38 when it is marked in the sleeve as size 4 - which is a 42. I'm a 42 and this coat is a little snug on me in the shoulder area - plus the sleeves are 22" long (as measured from the outer edge of the shoulder down to the cuffs). So I deemed it best to classify this coat as a size 38 rather than a 42. You should also measure your arm length to insure the sleeves will be of sufficient length for you prior to purchase.

U.S. SCHUYLKILL ARSENAL INFANTRY JACKET: #KW4236 A nice example of the Schuylkill Arsenal Infantry jacket this size 44 item has been worn a couple times but remains in EXCELLENT++ physical condition. The only signs that this jacket was worn are as follows: has some minor stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs (the usual stuff), some very light/very slight "fuzzing up" of the wool in some areas (accoutrements rubbing, etc) and a very very faint outline (from the hand stitching) of a pair of chevrons that were once on the sleeves. This outline is just from the stitching and are NOT fade lines. These stitch lines usually disappear after the jacket has been in service a little while so they are not a major drawback of any kind. Made in a rich indigo blue wool broadcloth with a red/green/tan plain cotton shirting body lining and white cotton shirting sleeve linings. Machine sewn main seams but all top stitching has been done by hand. Front breast panels are cut with a mild "pidgeon breast" effect (stylish!). Additional features are hand quilted breast panel liners, internal left breast pocket with hand top stitched opening, hand felling around the inside of the coat (along the base of the collar, front facings, bottom wool facing and in the cuffs), eleven small (1/2") U.S. eagle buttons down the front, 2 small (1/2") U.S. eagles on each functional cuff plus a hook & eye in the collar. This jacket is based on the jacket worn by Sergeant George Snell of the 121st New York Infantry. Privately made. Just to mention it, we can add a Schuylkill Arsenal makers stamp to the coat (on one of the sleeve linings) for the buyer if they wish.

C.S. ARTILLERY ROUNDABOUT. #MD6377 This jacket is USED but is in VERY GOOD condition. Size is 52. Made in a medium weight light gray wool with red standing collar and pointed cuffs. Lined on the inside with unbleached muslin in both body and sleeve. Nine 7/8" CSA buttons down the front. No buttons on the cuffs. There are some very minor service stains here and there on the lining but nothing major. There is also a small repair by the internal left breast pocket in the lining but again nothing major. The sleeve linings seem to be just touch longer than the sleeve themselves so a little of the lining shows below the cuff line when worn. However, a few quick tacks inside the sleeves should take care of that minor problem. Other than that, the jacket is in fine shape and ready to go back to the field. Some additional measurements are:

WAIST: 51" (that's off the coat so will fit individual with up to a 48" waistline comfortably)
COLLAR: 24" (including the front gap)
SLEEVE: 23" (arm length - outer edge of the shoulder to the cuff)
FRONT LENGTH: 21" (down the front, base of collar to the bottom of the jacket)

Maker unknown. Has the look of a Jarnagin or QM Shop item but I'm pretty sure it's not a product from either of those shops. There's a tag on the inside but it's illegible.

TROUSERS

PLEASE NOTE: The waist measurements on ANY trousers listed on this page are "WAIST AT NAVEL LEVEL" (that high up). This is not necessarily the same waist size found on your blue jean size tags. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WAIST SIZE AT NAVEL LEVEL to insure the trousers you order fit satisfactorily. Three minutes taken to check this measurement may save you all the hassle of reboxing the trousers, the hike to the post office or UPS to ship them back, paying shipping and insurance charges, etc. as well as time lost if you needed the trousers in a hurry.

A lot of guys ask "Why are a lot of your trousers on consignment?" The answer is simple and regrettable - a lot of guys who order new trousers do not follow the simple instructions on this website for taking ACTUAL "off-the-body" measurements; particularly the waist measurement. They guess at it or use the size tag info off jeans. While the size tag info can work for length, when it comes to waist sizing on Victorian era style trousers, 75% of the time (or better) the waist size given on jeans size tags will NOT work. Jeans are cut much differently than Victorian era (CW) trousers. So because instruction were not followed, trousers come back and wind up on consignment. The most regrettable part of this for all parties involved is that the gentleman has to reorder (repurchase) a new pair of trousers plus starting the production waiting process all over again - all the while waiting for his old pair to sell so he can recoup his original purchase funds. All of this could have been avoided just for the sake of taking a couple minutes to get an actual off-the-body waist at navel level measurement with a tape measure.

So it is with buying trousers listed on consignment - if anything at least PLEASE take an actual measurement of your waist size AT NAVEL LEVEL using a vinyl tape measure. We want to make sure you're happy with the fit of your purchase but 100% of insuring the size rests in the hands of the buyer. Now if this measurement stuff gets confusing, no sweat ... call (315-343-1557) or e-mail me and we can sort it all out in short order. :-)

All WAIST measurements on the trousers listed below (or found elsewhere on this site) are all with the rear waistband split TIED CLOSED. :-)

These trousers have been freshly laundered (hand washed) so I'm sure they will not shrink anymore. :-) The only physical damage we could find is: a very small hole on the back of the left side waistband facing near the back suspender button; some very slight wear on the nap at the knees, around the pocket openings and on the rear end; there also were a couple broken threads on the front waistband button hole which we fixed. There are some stains inside the pockets and on the waistband facings (nothing major) and some light grass stains remaining on both knees. These trousers are made from County Cloth 100% wool and cut in the J.T. Martin pattern featuring side seam pattern pockets, a right side watch pocket, three 1/2" buttons in the fly and seven 5/8" buttons on the waistband. The buttons are a BRAND NEW set paper backed tin (the seller had us put on a fresh set of buttons). Brown cotton left side fly facings, a plain white cotton drill right side fly facing plus white cotton drill pockets and waistband facings. Split rear waistband but no adjustment as per original pattern. Principally machine sewn (again as per original J.T. Martin contract trousers) but with hand finishing on the waistband facings and cuffs. The cuffs have the side seam splits and are rolled/hand felled on the inside. All buttonholes are hand sewn of course. These trousers are stamped with the J.T. Martin contractor stamp, a size 2 stamp and a Jos. Jones New York Depot inspectors stamp.

TROUSERS; U.S. SKY BLUE FOOT PATTERN. #JR3626 . These size 36" x 26" unfinished length sutler row sky blue foot pattern trousers have seen a little service but remain in very solid serviceable condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc.) These have a few minor stains here and there (around the knees and cuff area plus a few stains on the inside cottons) but nothing major. No smells, smoke or otherwise and it does appear that these trousers were recently cleaned. Made in a medium weight sky blue wool with the inside cottons being cotton duck. Entirely machine sewn except for some hand felling across the botton edge of the waistband facings and the button holes were gone over by hand - all using black thread. These trousers have a right side watch pocket with external facing, side seam pattern pockets and rear tie-back grommet holes with a leather thong for closure. These trousers DO NOT have buttons. They were removed at one point prior to being shipped to us. We can easily attach tin buttons simply for the cost of the buttons. As mentioned above these trousers DO NOT have any cuffs and still have a raw bottom hem. Current UNHEMMED length is 26". We can apply a small rolled/hemmed cuff at no extra charge to the buyer. The smallest we can do is about 1/2" so the maximum finished length will be 25 1/2". No marks or tags.

TROUSERS; U.S. SKY BLUE FOOT PATTERN. #JR3126 . These size 31" x 26" unfinished length sutler row sky blue foot pattern trousers have seen a little service but remain in very solid serviceable condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc.) These have a couple very minor stains here and there and some light stains on the waistband facings and pocket bags (nothing major though). No smells, smoke or otherwise and I believe these trousers were recently cleaned. Made in a lighter weight sky blue wool (not wool flannel though) with lightweight white cotton (could be bleached fine weave muslin) elements on the inside (facings and pockets). Entirely machine sewn including button holes. Side seam pattern pockets and rear tie-back grommet holes with a leather thong for closure. No watch pocket. TROUSERS; U.S. SKY BLUE FOOT PATTERN. #JW3738. These are from sutler's row but have been upgraded a little. Made in a medium weight sky blue wool and in a cut that reflects the William Deering pattern trouser. These trouser have been used but are in great condition! They do have a couple tiny dirt stains here and there but absolutely no biggie. Also, some mothing is present on the left leg. One mothed area about the size of a dime and four more ranging from the size of a pin head to an eraser head. No holes though; just the fabric nap chewed (see photos). A dry cleaning (although not manditory) would make these trousers really nice. Trousers measure 37/38" waist x unfinished length. PLEASE NOTE: The current unfinished length on these trousers is 27". You'll lose a little of that if you hem them. Naturally how much you lose depends on how much you use in the hem. We can apply a small 1/2" hem on them and save most of the current length. These trousers feature side seam pattern pockets, three button fly, seven buttons on the waistband and have the split rear vent with tie-back cord. No watch pocket. All cottons used in these trousers (pockets and facings) are unbleached muslin. New tin buttons through out. Entirely machine-sewn (in sky blue thread) but the rear tie-back grommet holes as well as the front waistband button hole have been gone over by hand.
