U.S. INFANTRY FROCK COAT.   #DL3836. Made by Chris Daley this size 38 infantry trimmed frock coat is a copy of the Pvt. Steven H. Parker’s (44th Massachusetts Infantry regiment) private purchase pattern frock coat. This coat was purchased brand new by the owner in 2004 (he included the receipt with the coat to verify this) and it has NEVER been worn. It has been stored in a cedar chest for thirteen years and is as nice as the day it was made.

This beautiful frock is made from dark blue imported English wool broadcloth and has indigo dyed trim on the standing quilted collar and on the pointed pattern cuffs. There are nine 3/4” stamped brass U.S. general service eagle buttons on the front, two of the same in the back plus two small 1/2” buttons on each non-functioning cuff. (non-functioning meaning they do not button / unbutton). Inside we have a FULL LENGTH dark green polished cotton lining with padded / quilted breast panels. In the upper right and left breast panels are horizontal cut pockets. There are also two internal entry tail pockets in the skirt lining. The tail pockets themselves are made from a fine grain white cotton broadcloth. The skirt lining is hand hemmed to the wool portion of the skirt while the bottom edge of the wool skirt is raw. There is a load of hand stitching in this coat: around the lower portion of the arm hole on the white cotton broadcloth sleeve linings, on the lining where the body lining panels join the skirt lining at the waist, along the bottom edge of the skirt lining (as mentioned above), along both sides of the tail splits where the lining joins them, along the vertical front edge of the skirt/lining seams and across the inside bottom edge of the standing quilted collar. The button holes are hand sewn of course.

This frock also features the fashionable wide cut “French” elbows which measure 9 1/2” across at the widest part. Finally, there is a small 1” wide x 2” long dark spot near the rear of the right side skirt lining (see last photo). This is where a label was at one time from the polished cotton supplier. Even today we occasionally get this ourselves when we buy assorted cottons from various suppliers. It is not a physical problem (such as a fabric repair, etc) but just a mark left from labeling.

Below are some additional sizes. PLEASE check these against your own measurements to insure this coat will fit you satisfactorily.

CHEST: 38” (made for a gentlemen with a 38” chest size)
COLLAR: 20” (not counting the 1 3/4” gap between collar ends)

U.S. INFANTRY FROCK COAT.   Sale Pending  #MC3876. Made by Ray Hock this high end size 38 "museum grade" frock coat has been worn a couple times but remains in GREAT condition. Freshly dry cleaned but some sweat stains do remain on the sleeve linings. Made from a dark blue lightweight wool. Comes with the mounting hardware for shoulder scales already sewn on (scales not included) and has two service stripes per sleeve. There is just a very slight amount of fading on one of the upper corners of the sky blue collar trim. Certainly not bad at all though and it’s a tiny amount at that. There is also some very slight stitch marks on the sleeves where chevrons were once sewn on. These are just light stitch marks and NOT fade. They will probably disappear after the coat has been worn a little while. On one of the sleeve linings is the maker's stamp ("R & W") which historically would have been Rockhill & Wilson in Philadelphia and a size "1" stamp. A size 1 coat would be a 36" in the chest but we size this frock more as a 38". So we are listing it as a 38".

The infantry cording on this coat is a rich darker shade of sky blue and very well executed around the standing collar and on the pointed cuffs; up the cuff splits as well. Down the front are nine 1/2” stamped brass U.S. general service eagle buttons w/ two of the same on the back. Two small 1/2” U.S. eagles are on the functioning cuffs. The bottom edge of the skirt is raw. Inside we have lightly padded/machine quilted black Silesia breast panels, muslin sleeve linings, the proper wool facing (lining) across the center back at the waistline, plus two black cotton internal entry tail pockets. Lot of hand sewing is evident in this frock including hand sewn button holes of course.

COLLAR: 19” (fits up to a 19” neck comfortably)
SHOULDERS: 18” (as measured shoulder-to-shoulder across the back)
SLEEVE (arm) LENGTH: 25” (edge of shoulder to the bottom of the cuff)
FRONT LENGTH TO WAIST: 17“ (base of collar to front waistline)
FRONT LENGTH: TOTAL: 36“ (base of collar to front bottom hem)
BACK LENGTH TO WAIST: 18” (base of collar in the back to rear waistline)
WAIST: will fit up to a 34” waistline comfortably

U.S. FIVE BUTTON SACK COAT. #BC8938. Made from a size 46 Wambaugh, White & Co. Schuylkill Arsenal four button sack coat kit this blouse has seen very little use and remains in great condition. This coat is completely hand sewn although the sewing is not on par with some of the regular full time makers out there (please see photos). However, given that the coat is entirely hand sewn it can easily be taken apart are reassembled with finer stitching.

This coat is made from a lightweight indigo dark blue wool flannel and features a square cut falling collar, four panel body, four piece collar and two piece sleeves. Although this item started life as a Schuylkill Arsenal enlisted man’s issue sack coat, the person assembling it applied FIVE button holes on the front plus added the three cuff buttons to make it look an officers sack coat. However, one body button (the top one) is missing so there are only four 7/8” U.S. Infantry officer “I” buttons currently on the coat. There are three small 1/2” infantry officer “I” buttons sewn on each cuff. Inside we have a tan & green checkered cotton body lining plus muslin sleeve linings (w/ exposed seams). In the left sleeve are size and makers stamps (again, this started life as a Schuylkill Arsenal enlisted man’s sack coat) done in red ink. The bottom of the body lining is shorter than the coat itself, unhemmed and not attached to the bottom of the coat. The “shorter-than-the-body” detail is as per original pattering.

Below are some additional sizes. PLEASE check these against your own measurements to insure this coat will fit you satisfactorily.

U.S. FOUR BUTTON SACK COATS. #SST3270. On hand is a small lot of high end contract pattern U.S. four button sack coats. These sack coats are BRAND NEW NEVER USED and made from a pre-shrunk lightweight 8 oz indigo dark blue wool flannel. Please note that in some of the photos below the coats look pale dark blue and in others they look a little purple-ish. This is simply due to the bright lights and camera flash. These coats are in fact a solid rich indigo dark blue color. These coats are lined in lightweight wool flannel and have muslin sleeve linings. Some body linings are gray and some are a honey brown color. These blouses reflect a mix of machine sewing and hand finishing. Featured are correct smaller style falling collar, tapered front facings, internal left breast pocket, split scalloped cuffs plus four 3/4" stamped brass U.S. eagle buttons down the front. There are no stamps in these coats at this time. However, we will add a repro period inspector's stamp upon sale. Made by Sixth Street Tailor.

Lastly, a note concerning "pre-shrunk" as mentioned above (because we've been asked about it a lot). The woolens used in these coats have been soaked to pre-shrink the fabric prior to cutting. This means that if these blouses get damp any shrinkage will be minimal. However, if you get caught in a downpour and these coats get saturated (soaked) they will shrink further. If you take a dive into Antietam creek, the Mississippi or any body of water, these coats will likewise shrink. So if they get damp, you should have no problem. If they get saturated where you can wring them out, they will shrink considerably. THIS IS THE NATURE OF ANY WOOL FLANNEL GARMENT and applies to any makers product using wool flannel. 'Nuff said.

U.S. MOUNTED SERVICES JACKET; CAVALRY: #SH8365 This Quartermaster Shop made size 42 U.S. cavalry “shell” jacket has seen service but remains in excellent physical condition (NO rips, tears repairs, etc). However, the lining does have some heavy stains with a good portion of them from the leather suspender pieces. A dry cleaning would not only remove some of these but would also be beneficial to the jacket as a whole (this jacket has been in storage). So we would recommend a dry cleaning for this coat as it would step it up a bit. Meantime, this jacket is trimmed in a lemon yellow 3/8” cotton twill tape according to regulations and features a 12 button front, 2 buttons per collar side plus 2 button functioning cuffs. All buttons are stamped brass 5/8” U.S. general service eagles. Two real belt bolsters (“pillows”) are present on the back. Body and sleeves are lined in muslin and there is an internal left breast pocket present. Tall standing collar w/ a hook & eye. This coat is entirely machine sewn including button holes. NEW LISTING  C.S. TAN JEAN WOOL JACKET. SIZE. #BC8711. Here’s an untrimmed size 40 C.S. natural tan colored jean wool jacket which is the seller indicates is a Ben Tart item. Nice sewing work all round. Principally machine sewn but is entirely hand top stitched plus has hand sewn button holes. This jacket has been worn a couple times but has been freshly dry cleaned. Some light color small scattered marks remain (mostly on the outer body) but all minor to be sure. A couple light marks on the lining in the back and we believe these were from the leather suspender ends.

They can also be moved a little closer to the front edge to give this jacket a little more chest and waist room. There are no shoulder epaulettes or side belt loops and the cuffs are plain. Would make a nice representation of a CS commutation jacket or even a North Carolina pattern jacket (just add NC buttons). Lined in natural colored cotton drill in both the body and sleeves. GRAY JEAN WOOL JACKET. #LB6413. Made by Bob Neikirk from a County Cloth gray jean wool this untrimmed size 40 jean wool jacket has been worn and has some stains on the cotton body lining plus some heavier soiling on the sleeve linings at the cuffs (the usual stuff)). There are some areas of very light fading here and there on the jacket but certainly nothing drastic or that stands out. There is also the faint outline of some corporal chevrons on the sleeves. Overall though, this jacket remains in excellent physical condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc) and a dry cleaning (not mandatory but we recommend) would step this item up nicely. Has six “coin style” stamped brass “sunburst” North Carolina buttons on the front. These can very easily be changed out by the buyer to any state seal or branch of service button. Inside we have a cotton drill body lining with two horizontal cut pockets - one on the left and one on the right. The sleeves are also lined in cotton drill. This jacket is entirely machine sewn except for hand sewn button holes, hand stitching around the sleeve linings at the arm holes plus hand stitching on the body lining along the base of the collar.

GRAY JEAN WOOL JACKET. On Temporary Hold #LB5536 . Made by Steve Bartlett this untrimmed size 46 logwood dyed gray jean wool jacket has been worn and has some light stains on the body plus some heavier ones on the heavy white cotton lining. There is also a faint outline of sergeant-major chevrons on the sleeves. These should lighten up more once the jacket gets some additional campaign time. There are some areas of fading here and there on the jacket and while it is visible, it's not drastic. Overall though, this jacket remains in great physical condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc) and a dry cleaning (not mandatory but we recommend) would step this jacket up nicely. Featured is a short standing collar and six 7/8” wooden buttons on the front, multi-colored striped cotton shirting sleeve linings plus two horizontal cut pockets in the body lining - one on the right and one on the left. There are no shoulder epaulettes or side belt loops. A note concerning the wooden buttons: these are VERY tight going through the button holes and we believe these were put on the owner some point after the jacket was made. So we would recommend changing these out to a slightly smaller button (around 3/4”) which was probably the size that originally came with the jacket. Just a suggestion.

Here are some additional measurements: PLEASE check these against your own respective sizes to insure this jacket will fit you satisfactorily on ALL points ... especially the SLEEVE LENGTH.

PRICE REDUCED  MOBILE DEPOT JEAN WOOL JACKET. #BC4877. This size 48 Mobile Depot “Mystery” jacket was made by Nate Petersburg from a pale brown jean wool reportedly to be the last of the jean wool run off on a period loom at Texas A&M some years ago. This jacket has been worn a couple times but remains in GREAT condition. Has a couple light stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs (the usual stuff) but other than that this jacket is clean and in super shape. This jacket features a muslin body lining, muslin sleeve linings, hand sewn button holes, two rows of hand top stitching around the body, hand felling on the sleeve linings at the arm homes plus hand stitching on the internal left breast pocket. Rounding out this jacket are seven C.S. block "I"s buttons down the front. These buttons are replacements (not original to the jacket) and six show wear not consistent with the jacket itself (as mentioned the jacket is in great condition). One of these “”I” buttons (the one at the very bottom - the shiny one) is a brand new replacement. However, the buyer can very easily replace all these buttons with buttons of their choice. Some of the current buttons could use some re-stitching to tighten them up.

Here are some additional measurements. PLEASE check these against your own respective sizes to insure this jacket will fit you satisfactorily on all points.

C.S.GRAY WOOL ROUNDABOUT JACKET. Size 38. #BC3536. Made by Calico Corner this light gray wool roundabout measures in at a size 38. There is a penned “46” on the lining by the collar but this is NOT the size of this coat. We measured it and it is definitely a 38. If the 46 is an indication of the original size, then while this coat may have started life as a 46 it is definitely a 38 at this point in time and this shop will stand behind that sizing.

So what we have here is a size 38 medium weight light gray wool roundabout that has been to the field but was dry cleaned before being sent in to us. There are some very light stains on the muslin lining and one darker one on the lining back. We believe this darker one is from suspenders. Other than that this coat is in very nice condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc.). The coat is principally machine sewn (including button holes) but does have some hand felling around a muslin facing on the inner collar plus around the arm holes. There is a wool wear strip along the bottom of the coat on the inside. Rounding out this coat is a short standing collar, pointed functioning cuffs (same color as the coat) plus eight 3/4” “CSA” buttons on the front and two of the same on each cuff. Just to note, if you wish to have the cuffs function (button and unbutton) more easily we would recommend changing the current 3/4” buttons used in the cuffs to smaller 1/2” or 5/8”. The current 3/4” buttons are a little too large to work easily through the holes.

Here are some additional sizes. PLEASE check these against your own measurements to insure this coat will fit you satisfactorily. Please take particular notice of the short sleeve (arm) length.

COLLAR: 18” (not counting the 4” gap between collar ends)
SHOULDERS: 19” (as measured shoulder-to-shoulder across the back)
SLEEVE (arm) LENGTH: 22” (edge of shoulder to the bottom of the cuff)

PLEASE NOTE: The waist measurements on ANY trousers listed on this page are "WAIST AT NAVEL LEVEL" (that high up). This is not necessarily the same waist size found on your blue jean size tags. ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WAIST SIZE AT NAVEL LEVEL to insure the trousers you order fit satisfactorily. Now if this measurement stuff gets confusing, no sweat e-mail me and we can sort it all out in short order. :-)

All WAIST measurements on the trousers listed below (or found elsewhere on this site) are all with the rear waistband split TIED CLOSED. :-)

U.S. SKY BLUE MOUNTED PATTERN TROUSERS: #SH8723. These trousers measure in with a 37" waist x 28 1/2" unfinished length. They started life a little longer but were cut down at some point. So at the moment they measure in with a 28 1/2” unfinished length. Adding a hem will of course reduce the current length. These trousers have seen service but remain in overall very nice physical condition. They do have some VERY minor pilling in the crotch and some assorted stains/dirt marks here and there on the body. There are some dark stains on the inner legs from the saddle (these trousers were from an actual mounted impression). The right side pocket bag has some dark stains near the bottom edge. However, no other problems such as rips, tears, repairs or odors (smoke, sweat, powder). A dry cleaning would step these trousers up. Featured are mounted seat reinforcement panels, side seam pockets, pewter buttons (7 on the waistband & 4 in the fly), white internal cottons plus a rear tie-back cord.

SKY BLUE 100% WOOL TROUSERS. #BB6245. On hand is this small lot of sky blue 100% wool Schuylkill Arsenal pattern trousers. These trousers are mostly complete except for the felling the waistband & fly facings, installing the waistband button hole, installing the tie-back grommet holes & cording, adding the buttons and setting the length. We will finish these details for buyer upon sale at NO additional charge. However, given that we’re VERY busy in the shop please allow us a little time to be able to get to and complete that work. We can also alter any of the current sizes to any size not listed - and again at no charge to the buyer. ANY questions on any of this please e-mail me BEFORE you buy.

Meantime, these trousers are made to “Standard Grade” specifications (principally machine sewn but with hand sewn button holes and some assorted hand tacking). Additional features are side seam pattern pockets, an SA style right side watch pocket, correct high waist cut, a sloping back w/ tapered waistband and all internal cottons are white cotton drill. The waistband is split in the back for a small range of adjustment. When finished these trousers will also have rolled split & hemmed cuffs, tie-back cord, plus paperbacked tin buttons - seven on the waistband and five smaller ones in the fly.

We recently completed a pair of these for a customer and here’s what they look like when finished.

These are the sizes currently available. We do have duplicates (more than one pair) in several of these sizes:

34, 38, 42, 46, 48, and 52.

Of course any size NOT listed here we can easily alter one of the above pair to buyers size specifications at NO extra charge.

If you order we will need the following size information to get you the best fit:

WAIST: As measured at navel level. Please do NOT go by your jeans size for waist.
HIPS: As measured around the fullest part of the seat/buttocks (can be taken while wearing boxers or briefs)
LENGTH: For this we can use your jeans sizing (it's just the waist size from jeans that we cannot use).

Once again we must mention that we'll need a little time to finish these trousers ( sewn down the fly & waistband facings, add final button holes, set the length, add buttons and/or do any size alterations that maybe requested). Any questions on this please e-mail me BEFORE you buy.

PRIVATE PURCHASE PARTIALLY COMPLETED MADDER RED TROUSERS. #RM5505. Made in a wool blend fabric (85% wool - 15% synthetic fiber) these private purchase pattern madder red (like a brick red) trousers measure in at 36" waist x unfinished length. We can take in (take in only) the waist a little and/or shorten (shorten only) the length to buyers specifications at no additional charge. These trousers can work in any application - U.S., C.S. or civilian - where red trousers are called for.

These trousers have been started to “Standard Grade” specifications (principally machine sewn but w/ hand sewn button holes and some assorted hand tacking) but because they are only partially completed at this time we can easily convert them to “museum grade” specifications (machine sewn main seams but w/ extensive hand sewn details and finishing). If you are interested in :Museum Grade” specs for these trousers please e-mail me and let me know. I can then get back to you with a new price (“Museum Grade” trousers are a bit more expensive than “Standard Grade” because of all the additional hand sewing).

Meantime, these trousers follow regular cut lines and are not baggy or full cut like zouave or chasseur trousers. These trousers are cut with one-piece left and right rear panels and upon completion will feature side seam pockets, a standard cut right side watch pocket, white internal cottons w/ black polished cotton left side fly facings, black cotton drill right side fly facing, two rear adjustment belts with a two-tine brass buckle black stipple faced tin buttons. The white tin buttons used on the trousers in the photos below was at the request of the buyer. Generally, on private purchase trousers we use the fancier black stipple faced tin buttons.

PHOTO NOTE: We recently made a pair of trousers identical to these listed here. We have posted photos of those previously made trousers to show what the above trousers (#RM5505) will look like UPON COMPLETION. Any questions on this please e-mail me BEFORE you buy.

Last but not least, given that these trousers are only partially completed we will need some time to get to and complete them. Same for alterations. Any questions about that please e-mail me.

DARK BLUE FOOT PATTERN TROUSERS   SALE PENDING  #MC3530. These J.T. Martin contract pattern DARK blue trousers were made by Chris Daley and measure in with a 35” waist x 30” length. They have been to the field and have some light stains and a stray blade of grass here and there so a trip to the dry cleaners would be a help (not mandatory but would help). These trousers have a little wear to them but certainly nothing severe as they do remain in very solid very serviceable condition (no rips, tears, repairs, etc). These trousers have a 1.5” dark shade of sky blue side seam striping for sergeants rank and the right side stripe does have some damage to it near the top (see photos when posted). Of course if you don’t need sergeant’s striping these can be very easily removed.

These trousers feature side seam pockets, a right side watch pocket, split rear waistband without a tie-back cord, white cotton drill pockets & waistband facings, brown polished cotton fly facings, paperbacked tin buttons (5 large on the waistband and 3 smaller in the fly) plus rolled machine hemmed cuffs. The hems on these trousers were done by a modern tailor shop so they currently have a modern serged edge inside the cuff. This can be easily removed and replaced with hand hemming.

TWO PAIR, SCHUYLKILL ARSENAL MOUNTED PATTERN TROUSERS. #RZ9265. Here we have two pair of partially completed Schuylkill Arsenal MOUNTED pattern trousers made in sky blue 100% wool. Being assembled by Stony Brook Company in their "Standard Grade" finish (principally machine sewn but w/ some hand sewn details). The two sizes available are:

42 & 48.

These trousers are about 50% complete and we will of course finish for the buyer to his respective sizes upon sale and at NO additional charge. Given that these are only partially assembled we can also do some alterations to size. If any of these trousers are of interest E-MAIL ME and let me know the size you need. I can then get back to you to let you know if they can be altered to the requested size. ALSO, given that we're VERY BUSY in the shop we'll need some time to be able to complete the work on any ordered pair.

Upon completion these trousers feature cotton drill side seam pockets & facings, an SA pattern right side watch pocket, split rear waistband w/ tie-back cord, rolled edge/machine felled mounted reinforcement panels, split faced & HAND hemmed cuffs plus paper backed tin buttons in the fly and for suspenders. On a construction note, the majority of the main body seam as well as the inseams are REVERSED as per original mounted pattern trousers. We do not install the undersole strap buttons in the cuffs on "Standard Grade" trousers unless specifically requested by the buyer. If you wish to have the undersole strap buttons there is a $5.00 charge (just to cover the cost of the eight small buttons).

These mounted trousers also feature a full cut (wide) upper leg as per the original pair we drafted our pattern from. Now I know some gentlemen will ask about tapering the legs but no, we cannot taper the leg on these trousers as that will severely distort the fit of the mounted reinforcement panels (been there, tried that, disaster).

PHOTO NOTE: The trousers in the photos below are NOT any of these two trousers on consignment. The trousers in the photos show what these trousers will look like UPON COMPLETION. Swatches of the fabric the trousers (#RZ9265) are made from are available simply upon request and at no cost.

OFFICER'S TROUSERS

PARTIALLY COMPLETED OFFICER TROUSERS. #ES5588. On hand is this partially completed pair of sky blue 100% wool officers trousers. Because they are partially completed we can easily change the dark blue (infantry) side seam welting to either scarlet for artillery or golden yellow for cavalry. These trousers are cut from sky blue 100% wool and currently measure in with a 46” waist. This can be very easily altered to buying customers specifications. One of the main features of these trousers are the top entry ("mule ear") pockets which are designed to button close. These trousers will be finished to “Museum Grade” specifications (machine sewn main seams but extensive hand finishing). When finished additional features will be (in addition to the buttoning top entry pockets) black internal cottons (we can change this out to WHITE cottons if desired), upper back panel lining, two rear adjustment belts w/ brass buckle, black tin buttons plus rolled hand hemmed cuffs. There is no watch pocket slated for these trousers.

TIME TABLE NOTE: We will need at least six (6) weeks easy to be able to get to and complete these trousers. We are VERY BUSY in the shop so we’ll need time to even get to this project. Then once started there’s a LOT of work involved in making these trousers. So please understand we’ll need at least six (6) weeks minimum from date of purchase to be able to get to and complete these trousers.

Finally, we made a pair of trousers identical to these partially completed ones about a year ago. With that the following photo group shows what these trousers will look like when completed. Just so we’re clear on this, the trousers in the following photos are NOT the ones listed above (these partially completed ones (#ES5588) are currently just cut-out panels) but what these trousers will look like once assembled and finished.

LIGHT BROWN JEAN WOOL TROUSERS. #AMS6524. On hand are four pair of these light brown jean wool trousers that are about 15% finished at this time. We will finish these trousers to buyers specifications upon sale and the price below is for a finished pair of trousers, ready to wear right out of the box. Now given that we are VERY busy in the shop figure at least four weeks minimum for us to be able to get to and complete the work. If you have any questions about that time frame please E-MAIL ME BEFORE you buy.

These trousers were started to "Museum Grade" specifications (machine sewn main seams but with internal hand finishing and hand sewn details) and we would like to finish any order as such. HOWEVER, if you prefer “Standard Grade” (principally machine sewn but with hand sewn button holes and some assorted hand tacking) at a lower price, just E-MAIL ME and I can quote you a new (lower) price.

Meantime, upon completion these trousers will feature top entry (“mule ear”) pockets, two rear adjustment belt w/ a two tine brass buckle, black stipple faced tin buttons, rolled hand hemmed cuffs plus white cotton drill (not muslin) used for the pockets, waistband facings and all fly facings. NOW PLEASE NOTE: we recently finished up a pair of there trousers for a customer and used photos of that pair for this listing (to show pattern, features and workmanship). When he ordered his pair he sent us some cotton shirting to use for the fly facings. So the fly facings you see in the photos was fabric that buyer sent us to use and is not the fly facing fabric that comes with these trousers. That fabric is the standard white cotton drill as used for the pockets and waistband facings (as seen in the photos). Oh yes, the trousers in the photos is finished to “Museum Grade” specifications.

Okay, here are the current sizes available.

38",   44",   48   & 50"

WE CAN ALTER any of the above sizes to accommodate any missing size. Again, please give us some time to be able to get to and complete any alterations and assembly work.

Now a little more on this color of sky blue in CS service. We've had trousers identical to this color in the shop over the years and some gentlemen have asked if it is correct for Confederate service. In brief, Confederate 1861 regulations specified light blue (sky blue) as the color for trousers and there were limited quantities of light blue trousers made early in the war. However, for the most part light blue cloth was imported. This imported light blue cloth was a different shade from the pre-war U.S. sky blue. The light blue imported by the Confederacy was a shade called "light French blue" which was a little darker than the Federal sky blue. This fabric (and color) is of course not to be confused with English imported royal blue - both yardage and finished trousers - used in Confederate service as the war progressed.

For color reference here’s a photo of a pair of trousers that was made from this medium sky blue fabric.

The price below is for these trousers finished to STANDARD GRADE SPECIFICATIONS

PLEASE NOTE: We are VERY busy in the shop and will require AT LEAST four (4) weeks easy to be able to get to and complete these trousers. Please be aware of that BEFORE you buy.

These trousers will work for officer or enlisted man. As for any side seam trim for officer or NCOs, please E-MAIL ME with what you need for seam trimming BEFORE you buy so I can get back to you with a price quote for that work.

These trousers have been started to "Standard Grade" specifications (principally machine sewn but will have hand sewn button holes) and will be finished to that specification. Pockets have not been installed at this time so the buyer has the option of top entry (a.k.a. "mule ear") or side seam pattern. Rounding out these trousers will be a choice of natural bone or black tin buttons as well as two rear adjustment belts w/ a brass two tine buckle. Inside cottons (pockets & all facings) is cotton drill - not muslin and the cuffs will be rolled and hand hemmed.
