BLACK WOOL TAIL COAT SET. #MD6091. Here's a civilian TAIL coat set consisting of a double breasted jacket, double breasted vest and straight fly trousers. The suit pieces are made in a medium weight black wool. This set is an older Jarnagin production from some time ago. This set has been used for a couple formal occasion and thus exhibits hardly any signs of wear whatsoever. It has been in storage for a number of years. These pieces are entirely machine sewn including all buttonholes. Here are the sizes:

TROUSERS: Waist 44/46" x 38" (we can shorten to any length free upon request).
Here are descriptions of each individual piece in this set.
COAT: This is a tail coat - like a tuxedo jacket - with a very short front length (ends just below the rib cage) and cut with a "V" pattern double breast. Three large brass buttons (flat livery pattern) per side of which two are the primary buttons for closing the coat. These brass buttons can be changed out (by the buyer) to black cloth covered button if desired. Full lapels and a rolled falling collar. Rear tails are split in the back. Sleeves are plain and without buttons. Lined in a black polished cotton with muslin sleeve linings. There are two internal horizontal entry pockets in the body lining. As mentioned above, this coat has a very short front length (like similarly patterned tail coats from the 1820's/30's) and short tails (not long tails like swallow-tail coats). Just wanted to mention that. :-) This coat is in wonderful condition inside and out and has only a couple very slight (almost "trace") sweat stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs. Other than that, this coat is pristine inside and out.
VEST: Pretty much your basic vest pattern with a double breast. Nine small 1/2" flat brass livery pattern buttons per side of which 6 are the primary buttons for closing the vest (at least as the owner has it set up for the moment). The collar is a combo of of both "stand" and "fall" pattern. The sides and back of the collar stand up and the front portions are turned down where they join into the lapels. Three vest pattern pockets. Lined in muslin with a medium brown cotton backing. Two rear adjustment belts are made from the same fabric as the backing and has a two tine white metal adjustment buckle. There are two leather wear strips on the lower front body lining (one per side). There are just a couple light stains or marks on the lining which are probably from the suspenders as well as some very light sweat stains here and there. There are also some tiny stains near the neck (on the lining) and these are obviously from a coat hanger. These stains are nothing major though and still allow this vest to be considered a very nice item!
TROUSERS: Like the vest above, these are your general pretty straight forward pattern trousers with a regular (straight line) fly, vertical side seam pockets, split rear waist band with tie-back grommet holes, black stamped steel buttons on the fly and waistband, and rolled hemmed cuffs with a small side seam split. Pocket bags, fly and waistband facings are white cotton drill. No watch pocket. These trousers are in MINT condition and show absolutely no signs of wear.
This suit is being sold as a set; the seller will not break it up individually.

TWO PAIR, CIVILIAN TROUSERS: UNFINISHED. #RJ1977. On hand are two pair of civilian cut trousers in a partial stage of assembly. Both of these trousers are currently cut to fit an individual measuring 48" waist with a 34" length. HOWEVER, we can recut these to any SMALLER size for both waist and length. Color of woolens used are LIGHT BROWN for "Pair A" and a TAN (like a dark cream) for "Pair B". Small swatches of fabric are available for inspection if desired. Both fabrics are a medium weight wool BROADCLOTH and since these trousers have been started to "museum grade" standards they will be finished to the same standard of accuracy. These trousers feature side seam pattern pockets, a scallped cut watch pocket set into the top edge of the right waistband, solid cut (one piece) left and right rear panels, upper back panel liners, two rear adjustment belts with buckle, white cotton waistband, pocket bags and right side fly facings plus light brown right side fly facings. Cuffs will be rolled and hand hemmed. Trousers are machine-sewn on the main seams but will feature extensive hand finishing (including hand sewn button holes of course). Buttons are to be black stipple faced tin with seven on the waistband and five in the fly. Price below reflects finished to your size & ready to wear.

1850's LOW CROWN CIVVY HAT: #NC9387 Here's another Dirty Billy #C33 in size 7 5/8 - 7 3/4
(measures 23 1/4" around the dark brown leather hand sewn sweat band). Black body with 3" brim that
is bound in black grosgrain ribbon. Around the side of the crown is a 1" wide strip of black grosgrain
ribbon. Crown depth is 4 1/2". Lined in yellow./white/blue striped cotton shirting with a circular
muslin insert at the top. Stamped on this muslin insert is a copy of a period maker's stamp - "
S. Bush Manufacturer. Forestville, Shenandoah Co. Va.". This hat has seen limited light use
and thus remains in excellent++ condition.

LOW CROWN BOWLER: #NC9091 Here's a brown low crowned bowler that is a size 7 1/2 to 7 5/8
(measures 22 7/8" around the machine stitched brown leather sweatband). Rolled brim with brown
grosgrain ribbon edging. There is a 1 1/2" brown grosgrain ribbon around the crown as well. The
crown depth is 5". Lined in a maroon/tan check cotton shirting. Stamped in gold on the sweatband
is "Wild West Mercantile" and "5XXXXX Beaver Quality". In mint condition! Maker Unknown.

HAT; CIVVY BOWLER. #TR3877.
This brown medium crown fur felt bowler has been used a couple times but it is in EXCELLENT++
CONDITION inside and out! This item was made by Tim Bender (T P & H Trading Company) and is a
size 7 (measures 21 1/2" around the sweatband). Brim measures 3 1/4” wide with a crown height
of 5". The brim has double-stitched grosgrain ribbon around its edge and a matching ribbon around
the base of the crown. Wide brown hand-sewn sweatband which has the TP&H logo. Brown and gold striped
silk liner. A very nice hat in super condition.

SLEEPING CAP: #JW9021 Made from a heavy weight maroon upholstery type fabric with dark blue
and tan floral designs. Size is LARGE to X-LARGE. I wear a 7 3/8 forage cap and this fits me fairly
loosely (but I can still wear it). The current owner folded up about 1 1/2" of the bottom and tacked
it into place here and there. This was undoubtedly done to reduce the inside diameter a little for
a better fit (as it now stands). These tacks can be easily clipped out thus letting down this extra
folded up fabric. In doing that though I am sure this will increase the size of this hat a little
going from X-LARGE to XX-Large (7 7/8 hat size and possibly larger). Anyway, this smoking/sleeping
cap is lined in an osnaburg-like cotton fabric and hand hemmed along the bottom edge. In GREAT shape
overall. Has a small (5") sky blue yarn tassel on the end of a 2.5" long twisted length of yarn.
This twisted length of yarn has been knotted up to reduce the length. However, the knot can be taken
out with a little patience and in doing that it will add more length. Hat is fully machine sewn.

SLEEPING CAP: #NC9822 Made from a light weight floral pattern - tiny multi-colored flowers and
leaves on a very dark green base - cotton shirting. Unlined. In GREAT shape and is most likely
BRAND NEW NEVER USED. Has a small (5") very dark green yarn tassel on the end of a 3 1/2"
long two-piece twisted length of yarn. Size is LARGE. I wear a 7 3/8 forage cap and this fits me
but is a little loose. Fabric gives so this will probably fit gents wearing up to 7 3/4 to 7 7/8's

PLAID SLEEPING CAP. #CG9012.
Used but in very nice condition. Made from a multi-hued plaid wool flannel with a dark green wool
flannel bottom band. Lined in a dark green cotton flannel and has a small white cotton tassel at
the top. Like the cap above the size is small (measures 22" around the bottom). Stands 13 1/2"

SHIRT; CIVILIAN, #JW6720: Made in light weight unbleached muslin this shirt has been used but
is in excellent++ physcial condition! Freshly laundered. Has a couple tiny stains here and there
but VERY minor. Size fits 42/44" chest. Has an 18" collar and body length is 26" (as
measured from the base of the collar to the front bottom hem). Small standing pattern collar and
buttoning front plaquet. No reinforcement panels over the shoulders but does have the underarm
gussets and slightly gathered cuffs. No side seam splits. Buttons are tin and there is one on the
collar, one on each cuff and two on the front plaque. Shirt is entirely machine sewn including
button holes. Body and sleeve seams are raw but the bottom of the shirt is fully hemmed.

green & tan vertical striping patterned cotton. Brand new never worn and fits individual up to 42" chest.

sports jackets, etc. Some additional measurements are: COLLAR: 18" (this is as measured
on the shirt so best fits an individual wearing a 17" - 17 1/2" collar on a modern shirt).

WORN and fits up to size 38" chest. Falling pattern collar and buttoning front plaquet.
No reinforcement panels over the shoulders but does have the underarm gussets, sideseam splits and
gathered cuffs. Buttons on the plaquet and cuffs are small tin. Entirely machine sewn and has a
machine sewn bottom hem. All remaining seams are NOT hemmed or felled. Button holes are HAND
SEWN though. NOW, this shirt has a very tiny hole in it on the upper left breast.

C.S. NAVY CIRCULAR PLATE: #NC1961. Cast brass and seller informs us that this plate was made
in England in 1961. Center element (seal & wreath) measures 2" across and the total plate length
(plate with hasp) is 3". Around the cannons & anchor seal is "Confederate States Navy". The hook
that connects the hasp is a separate piece that is soldered on. Great condition.

C.S. PLATES: #BP9022. Here are two C.S. solid cast brass belt plates. One is a circular
pattern and can also serve as saber belt plates and the second your standard EM oval waistbelt
plate. One circular plate is a "CSA" (plate "B" in the photo) and the EM oval plate is an Alabama
State seal (plate "C" in the photo). The "CSA" circular plate has no markings and thus remains
unidentified as for maker. The Alabama oval plate could very well be a Hanover Brass product as
it has the following markings - "GW" and "HBF". Both plates are in very nice condition.

These are made from a very durable tightly woven off-white cotton duck. They measure 56" long

FABRIC: 3 YARDS LIGHT BROWN WOOL BROADCLOTH. #SP8764. Here are three yards of beautiful
light brown wool broadcloth. This fabric is in perfect condition and measures 68" inches
wide when unfolded (the industry standard is 58/60" wide). This fabric currently weighs in at
24 oz per yard. HOWEVER, this is when considering it's unusually wide width of 68". When
using the regular 58/60" wide industry standard this fabric would be equivilent to 18 ounces per
lineral yard. Therefore, it is excellent for trouser, frock coat and vest work. Seller will

GAUNTLETS. #KC8772: Dark cream/butter colored soft leather (goat skin I do believe) gauntlets
tagged inside as size MEDIUM.
Going by men's glove size these fit 9 to 9 1/2. To measure for your glove size
hold your hand out flat with the palm up (at least that's how I do it). Move your thumb out of the
way as you do NOT want to measure over your thumb. Then using a soft tape measure (vinyl or cotton)
measure around your palm. It's a little easier to have someone take the measurement for you so you
don't have to fight the tape measure sliding around. These gauntlets are made of soft leather with
a stiffened cuff. Decorative stitching over the fingers and on the cuffs. Maker unknown but the
seller believes these are American made. I tied on a pair and they are nice and comfy.
