BLACK WOOL TAIL COAT SET. Sale Pending #MD6091. Here's a civilian TAIL coat set consisting of a double breasted jacket, double breasted vest and straight fly trousers. The suit pieces are made in a medium weight black wool. This set is an older Jarnagin production from some time ago. This set has been used for a couple formal occasion and thus exhibits hardly any signs of wear whatsoever. It has been in storage for a number of years. These pieces are entirely machine sewn including all buttonholes. Here are the sizes:

COAT: Chest: 48". Waist: 46" max. Arm length: 27" Back length (base of collar to bottom of tails): 30 1/2"
VEST: Chest: 48". Waist: 46" max.
TROUSERS: Waist 44/46" x 38" (we can shorten to any length free upon request).

Here are descriptions of each individual piece in this set.

COAT: This is a tail coat - like a tuxedo jacket - with a very short front length (ends just below the rib cage) and cut with a "V" pattern double breast. Three large brass buttons (flat livery pattern) per side of which two are the primary buttons for closing the coat. These brass buttons can be changed out (by the buyer) to black cloth covered button if desired. Full lapels and a rolled falling collar. Rear tails are split in the back. Sleeves are plain and without buttons. Lined in a black polished cotton with muslin sleeve linings. There are two internal horizontal entry pockets in the body lining. As mentioned above, this coat has a very short front length (like similarly patterned tail coats from the 1820's/30's) and short tails (not long tails like swallow-tail coats). Just wanted to mention that. :-) This coat is in wonderful condition inside and out and has only a couple very slight (almost "trace") sweat stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs. Other than that, this coat is pristine inside and out.

VEST: Pretty much your basic vest pattern with a double breast. Nine small 1/2" flat brass livery pattern buttons per side of which 6 are the primary buttons for closing the vest (at least as the owner has it set up for the moment). The collar is a combo of of both "stand" and "fall" pattern. The sides and back of the collar stand up and the front portions are turned down where they join into the lapels. Three vest pattern pockets. Lined in muslin with a medium brown cotton backing. Two rear adjustment belts are made from the same fabric as the backing and has a two tine white metal adjustment buckle. There are two leather wear strips on the lower front body lining (one per side). There are just a couple light stains or marks on the lining which are probably from the suspenders as well as some very light sweat stains here and there. There are also some tiny stains near the neck (on the lining) and these are obviously from a coat hanger. These stains are nothing major though and still allow this vest to be considered a very nice item!

TROUSERS: Like the vest above, these are your general pretty straight forward pattern trousers with a regular (straight line) fly, vertical side seam pockets, split rear waist band with tie-back grommet holes, black stamped steel buttons on the fly and waistband, and rolled hemmed cuffs with a small side seam split. Pocket bags, fly and waistband facings are white cotton drill. No watch pocket. These trousers are in MINT condition and show absolutely no signs of wear.

This suit is being sold as a set; the seller will not break it up individually.

CIVILIAN COATS

GREAT COAT; CIVILIAN, BLACK WOOL. SOLD! #AMS3270. This black wool great coat is BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN and is a size 42/44. Cut in the basic civilian pattern with a single breasted body, falling pattern collar, elbow length cape and plain sleeves without cuffs. The body is lined to the waist in black wool flannel (hemmed) and the sleeves are lined in an unbleached 8.25 oz. cotton drill. Sleeves are faced on the inside at the cuffs with black wool. Down the front we have six (6) medium sized black synthetic buttons which can be very easily replaced (by the buyer) with gutta purcha, hard rubber or cloth covered period style buttons. No buttons on the cape but the cape closes at the throat with a black silk-like frog. No belts on the coat back but the rear vent is split. The bottom edge of the coat is unhemmed. Button holes are all hand sewn (and neatly done). This greatcoat also features two outside slash pattern pockets- one left and one right. Pocket bags are made from black wool flannel. A nice looking civvy overcoat. :-) Privately made.

CIVILIAN VESTS

VEST; LIGHT WEIGHT BROWN COTTON w/ DESIGNS. Sale Pending #WN9769. Made in a lightweight dark brown cotton blend fabric with vertical thin black lines. Size is 44 with a waist size fitting up to 41". This item has been worn just a couple times and thus remains in EXCELLENT++ condition. This vest is cut in the "V" neck pattern and features two lower vest pockets, lapels but no collar and five small ornate dark metal civvy buttons down the front. Lined with a black cotton with a black cotton backing. This black cotton is a cotton/poly blend. Two rear adjustment belts with a dark metal two tine buckle. This vest is entirely machine-sewn including button holes. Commercially made by "Branding Iron". Nice looking vest!
