BLACK WOOL FROCK/TROUSERS/SUSPENDER: #AM4409 The three items in this set are BRAND NEW, NEVER WORN and consists of a size 42 frock coat, a pair of 36/38" x 31" black wool trousers and a pair of fully adjustable white cotton webbing suspenders. Here are the specific details per item:
FROCK COAT: Made by "Wah Maker". Entirely machine-sewn (including button holes) in a lightweight black wool flannel. Size is 42R and features rolled collar and lapels, two black cloth covered buttons on the front, plain sleeves without buttons, fully lined in both body and sleeves in a black satin (with small black diamond patterns throughout) and has one horizontal upper left breast pocket on the lining. There are also two external "glove" pockets - one on each hip and ranging at the waistline. Each of the pockets have a flap or cover. There is also an upper left breast pocket on the front of the coat. On the back of the frock are two tail plaquets and four black wool flannel covered buttons. When this frock was originally made, it did not have tail plaquets. Last summer the original owner sent this frock in to me to have these plaquets made and sewn on. I was able to match the fabric very nicely and completed the tail plaquet job. I also installed all the black wool flannel covered buttons (front and back). Both the bottom of the frock skirt as well as lining are fully hemmed and sewn to each other across the bottom. As mentioned above this frock is brand new and all the labels and tags are still sewn on the lining (but easily removed).
TROUSERS: Black medium weight wool. Made by Stony Brook in their museum grade standard and measure 36" waist x 31" length. These trousers feature machine sewing on the main seams and hand finishing on the waistband facings, fly facings, pocket bar-tacking and cuffs (rolled and hand-hemmed). Hand sewn buttonholes on the fly and waistband. These trousers are high waisted with solid cut left and right rear trouser panels (no left and right upper gussets or panels like Federal enlisted man's trousers), have a sloping back and tapered waistband. Side seam pattern pockets with machine sewn pocket facings and a waistband set - scalloped cut side watch pocket. Split rear waistband but currently no rear adjustment. However, we are in the process of adding a set of rear belts with a black enameled buckle. Black polished cotton left side fly panels and plain black cotton drill right side fly panel. Black drill cotton also used for pockets and waistband facings. Buttons are black stipple faced tin and there are seven medium sized ones on the waistband and five small ones in the fly. The waistband buttons are "hidden" - meaning on the INSIDE of the waistband. This is a historically correct feature used to allow for a "cleaner" outside look. These trousers DO NOT have rear adjustment belts. However, we can add them for the buyer at NO extra charge.
SUSPENDERS: Authentic white cotton webbing suspenders with natural colored leather ends and correct two-tine brass adjustment buckles. BRAND NEW, NEVER USED.

BLACK WOOL TAIL COAT SET. #MD6091. Here's a civilian TAIL coat set consisting of a double breasted jacket, double breasted vest and straight fly trousers. The suit pieces are made in a medium weight black wool. This set is an older Jarnagin production from some time ago. This set has been used for a couple formal occasion and thus exhibits hardly any signs of wear whatsoever. It has been in storage for a number of years. These pieces are entirely machine sewn including all buttonholes. Here are the sizes:
COAT: Chest: 48". Waist: 46" max. Arm length: 27" Back length (base of collar to bottom of tails): 30 1/2"
VEST: Chest: 48". Waist: 46" max.
TROUSERS: Waist 44/46" x 38" (we can shorten to any length free upon request).
Here are descriptions of each individual piece in this set.
COAT: This is a tail coat - like a tuxedo jacket - with a very short front length (ends just below the rib cage) and cut with a "V" pattern double breast. Three large brass buttons (flat livery pattern) per side of which two are the primary buttons for closing the coat. These brass buttons can be changed out (by the buyer) to black cloth covered button if desired. Full lapels and a rolled falling collar. Rear tails are split in the back. Sleeves are plain and without buttons. Lined in a black polished cotton with muslin sleeve linings. There are two internal horizontal entry pockets in the body lining. As mentioned above, this coat has a very short front length (like similarly patterned tail coats from the 1820's/30's) and short tails (not long tails like swallow-tail coats). Just wanted to mention that. :-) This coat is in wonderful condition inside and out and has only a couple very slight (almost "trace") sweat stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs. Other than that, this coat is pristine inside and out.
VEST: Pretty much your basic vest pattern with a double breast. Nine small 1/2" flat brass livery pattern buttons per side of which 6 are the primary buttons for closing the vest (at least as the owner has it set up for the moment). The collar is a combo of of both "stand" and "fall" pattern. The sides and back of the collar stand up and the front portions are turned down where they join into the lapels. Three vest pattern pockets. Lined in muslin with a medium brown cotton backing. Two rear adjustment belts are made from the same fabric as the backing and has a two tine white metal adjustment buckle. There are two leather wear strips on the lower front body lining (one per side). There are just a couple light stains or marks on the lining which are probably from the suspenders as well as some very light sweat stains here and there. There are also some tiny stains near the neck (on the lining) and these are obviously from a coat hanger. These stains are nothing major though and still allow this vest to be considered a very nice item!
TROUSERS: Like the vest above, these are your general pretty straight forward pattern trousers with a regular (straight line) fly, vertical side seam pockets, split rear waist band with tie-back grommet holes, black stamped steel buttons on the fly and waistband, and rolled hemmed cuffs with a small side seam split. Pocket bags, fly and waistband facings are white cotton drill. No watch pocket. These trousers are in MINT condition and show absolutely no signs of wear.
This suit is being sold as a set; the seller will not break it up individually.

FABRIC: 3 YARDS LIGHT BROWN WOOL BROADCLOTH. #SP8764. Here are three yards of beautiful light brown wool broadcloth. This fabric is in perfect condition and measures 68" inches wide when unfolded (the industry standard is 58/60" wide). This fabric currently weights in at 24 oz per yard. HOWEVER, this is when considering it's unusually wide width of 68". When using the regular 58/60" wide industry standard this fabric would be equivilent to 18 ounces per lineral yard. Therefore, it is excellent for trouser, frock coat and vest work. Seller will NOT cut this yardage into small lengths; it is being sold as a three yard piece. Small snipping available for inspection.
FABRIC: 3 YARDS LIGHT TAN WOOL BROADCLOTH: #SP9092 Identical fabric to the piece above except
that it is a light colored tan wool. Seller will NOT cut this yardage into small lenghts;

PINCE-NEZ STYLE EYE GLASSES w/ WOODEN BOX: Sale Pending #NC0099
These pince-nez (French for "pinch nose")
probably date from the 1880's. However, from their general overall style, save for the decerning
eye glass collector, they could well pass for Civil War era. Lenses are in great condition but are
strong reading lenses. Therefore, depending on your eyes you would probably have to have your
own prescription lenses installed or perhaps reading lenses that are not as stong (+1 or +2). Excellent
dark metal frames and a very good spring action. No cord or chain (for hanging). Comes with a small
wooden box for storage when not in use. Just to mention it, pince-nez style glasses were used in
Europe as early as the 15th century. However, "modern" style (the type we see most often) pince-nez
glasses first made their appearance in the 1840s (+/-). Some
guys today say "no go!!" for using this style of glasses for Civil War. However, to that I say -
then explain to me why there's a war era Brady photo of General Meade with a pair of pince nez sticking
out of the side of his coat? There's also another closer photo of him with the glasses plainly
visible sticking out of the right side of his frock. Then there's the Culpeper photo of Meade with
some of his generals and you can see the glasses again. Then there the engraving by James Kelly of
Meade and the Council of War at Gettysburg on July 2, 1863. While this is a wood cut still it's
very clear that those are not Ray-Ban's he's wearing. Nuff said. Photos of these glasses up soon.

JOURNAL/REPORTS BOOK. #NC2276. Leather element made by Dixie Leather Works this journal
unfolds to two sides that also has a leather cover. Used but in EXCELLENT++ physical condition.
Comes with a blue lined sheet booklet (with some pages previously removed by the owner). Booket
has a nice period looking cover to it. Sheets in the booklet measure 9 3/4 tall x 7 1/2 wide (and
there are plenty left). When folded closed the leather element itself measures 8 1/4" tall x 10 1/2"
wide. Small "tongue & loop" on the front cover for for closure. Has "U.S. QMD" stenciled
with white paint on the cover. This could probably be removed but the cover may need to redyed
black (not a major project with a just little time invested).

GAUNTLETS. #KC8772: Dark cream/butter colored soft leather (goat skin I do believe) gauntlets
tagged inside as size MEDIUM.
Going by men's glove size these fit 9 to 9 1/2. To measure for your glove size
hold your hand out flat with the palm up (at least that's how I do it). Move your thumb out of the
way as you do NOT want to measure over your thumb. Then using a soft tape measure (vinyl or cotton)
measure around your palm. It's a little easier to have someone take the measurement for you so you
don't have to fight the tape measure sliding around. These gauntlets are made of soft leather with
a stiffened cuff. Decorative stitching over the fingers and on the cuffs. Maker unknown but the
seller believes these are American made. I tied on a pair and they are nice and comfy.
