BLACK WOOL TAIL COAT SET. #MD6091. Here's a civilian TAIL coat set consisting of a double breasted jacket, double breasted vest and straight fly trousers. The suit pieces are made in a medium weight black wool. This set is an older Jarnagin production from some time ago. This set has been used for a couple formal occasion and thus exhibits hardly any signs of wear whatsoever. It has been in storage for a number of years. These pieces are entirely machine sewn including all buttonholes. Here are the sizes:

TROUSERS: Waist 44/46" x 38" (we can shorten to any length free upon request).
Here are descriptions of each individual piece in this set.
COAT: This is a tail coat - like a tuxedo jacket - with a very short front length (ends just below the rib cage) and cut with a "V" pattern double breast. Three large brass buttons (flat livery pattern) per side of which two are the primary buttons for closing the coat. These brass buttons can be changed out (by the buyer) to black cloth covered button if desired. Full lapels and a rolled falling collar. Rear tails are split in the back. Sleeves are plain and without buttons. Lined in a black polished cotton with muslin sleeve linings. There are two internal horizontal entry pockets in the body lining. As mentioned above, this coat has a very short front length (like similarly patterned tail coats from the 1820's/30's) and short tails (not long tails like swallow-tail coats). Just wanted to mention that. :-) This coat is in wonderful condition inside and out and has only a couple very slight (almost "trace") sweat stains on the sleeve linings at the cuffs. Other than that, this coat is pristine inside and out.
VEST: Pretty much your basic vest pattern with a double breast. Nine small 1/2" flat brass livery pattern buttons per side of which 6 are the primary buttons for closing the vest (at least as the owner has it set up for the moment). The collar is a combo of of both "stand" and "fall" pattern. The sides and back of the collar stand up and the front portions are turned down where they join into the lapels. Three vest pattern pockets. Lined in muslin with a medium brown cotton backing. Two rear adjustment belts are made from the same fabric as the backing and has a two tine white metal adjustment buckle. There are two leather wear strips on the lower front body lining (one per side). There are just a couple light stains or marks on the lining which are probably from the suspenders as well as some very light sweat stains here and there. There are also some tiny stains near the neck (on the lining) and these are obviously from a coat hanger. These stains are nothing major though and still allow this vest to be considered a very nice item!
TROUSERS: Like the vest above, these are your general pretty straight forward pattern trousers with a regular (straight line) fly, vertical side seam pockets, split rear waist band with tie-back grommet holes, black stamped steel buttons on the fly and waistband, and rolled hemmed cuffs with a small side seam split. Pocket bags, fly and waistband facings are white cotton drill. No watch pocket. These trousers are in MINT condition and show absolutely no signs of wear.
This suit is being sold as a set; the seller will not break it up individually.

PLAID SLEEPING CAP. #CG9012.
Used but in very nice condition. Made from a multi-hued plaid wool flannel with a dark green wool
flannel bottom band. Lined in a dark green cotton flannel and has a small white cotton tassel at
the top. Like the cap above the size is small (measures 22" around the bottom). Stands 13 1/2"
tall not counting the tassel. Made by Blockade Runner.

WOOLEN NIGHT CAP. #MK8617. Maroon wool flannel body with Navy blue bottom band. Size is
XXXL (measures 30" around the bottom band). Lined in a dark blue and tan striped cotton shirting.
Has a small white yarn tassle and the bottom band is entirely HAND TOPSTITCHED in a neutral color
thread. Originally from Jersey Skillet Licker. Great condition with NO damage, etc.

TROUSERS; CIVILIAN, DARK BROWN. #GS3270 .
These trousers have been worn a couple times but they are in EXCELLENT++ condition! Size is 36"
waist x 34" length. We can shorten the length to buyers specifications simply upon request and
at no extra charge. These trousers are a mix of machine sewing (main seams) and hand finishing. The
hand sewing (hand felling) on these trousers is found on the waistband facings, fly facings, pocket
facings, button holes, bar-tacking on the pockets and on the hand felled cuffs. Made by Stony Brook
Company using a nice medium weight dark brown Woolrich wool. These trousers are high waisted with
a sloping back and tapered waistband. Side seam pattern pockets (not "mule ear") and a right side
watch pocket. Split rear waistband with two rear adjustment belts and black enamel buckle. Black
polished cotton left side fly panels and white cotton drill right side fly panel. White cotton drill
pocket inserts and waistband facings. The upper back trouser panels are lined in muslin. Buttons
are black stipple faced tin and there are seven medium sized ones on the waistband and five small
ones in the fly. These trousers do not feature any decorative stitching on the pockets nor have any
trim or accents on the waistband or adjustment belt edges; they are all plain solid brown. Photos up soon.

SUSPENDERS: SINGLE BUTTON HOOK-UP. #DP2876: These suspenders are BRAND NEW, NEVER ISSUED
and were made a few years ago by Doug Potter. Total working strap length measures 65" (5 feet, 5 inches!).
The front single button suspension hangers - the front pieces hanging from the adjustment buckles
which have leather ends - measure 8" in length. The rear leather pieces sewn to the strapping measure
in with a 2 1/2" working length. As a result you have a tremendous amount of available length on
these suspender and a good portion of it probably needs to be cut off once adjusted to buyers height
INCLUDING leaving 6 to 8 inches of extra strap for future adjustment. The straps are a very durable
plain off-white cotton webbing and are 1" wide. The leather ends (front and back) are pretty thick
and may need oiling to soften them up a little. It was noted to me that the two-tine brass
buckles used on these suspenders are antique items.

TWO BOILERS (CUPS w/ WIRE BAILS); #CG7277 These two boilers have been to the field and show
service. However, they are solid and serviceable and do not leak (I checked). Boiler "A" has holes
punched into the rim for the wire bale and Boiler "B" has small riveted "ears" for attaching the

BLANKET; RED WOOL. #PM6273: This scarlet red wool blanket (90% wool - 10% synthetic I believe)
has been "used" but it is in MINT condition. It's only "use" was to see some service rolled
up on the back of a hardpack and has never been on the ground or used otherwise. When not on the
backpack it has been folded and stored in its original zipper bag - in which it currently resides. :-)

LEGGINGS; WHITE COTTON DRILL. #SB8277: These white cotton drill leggings (double thick for strength) are USED but still in solid serviceable condition. Made by C&D Jarnagin and have five buckles and five straps for attachment and adjustment. SIZE IS LARGE (measures 17" around the calf when adjusted to minimum setting. When let ou to the max setting we gain approx. 1 1/2" more). The body of these leggings are a bit stained and dirty but they are in solid shape ( nmop rips, tears, repairs, etc). A good scrubbing would definitely help appearances. The buckles and side adjustment straps are all in good shape but the undersole straps have issues. One undersole strap is broken and the other is pretty well used up. These can be replaced, or removed entirely and the buckles used as spares. BUTTONS; BALL, "Domed"; Stamped Brass. #FB2024.
We have on hand at this time 5 gross of SMALL 1/2" brass ball buttons and 10 gross of larger 5/8"
brass ball buttons. These are all brand new never used and are UNPOLISHED stamped brass with a
wire loop back. These buttons DO NOT HAVE any protective finish, coating or "wash" on them
so they will tarnish (just like the originals :-). These buttons are just as they are when they
came out of the molds and some may have a little light machine oil on the domed surfaces.
With that, any falling within that catagory would need to be wiped down before sewing on the uniform.
These buttons have worked well on Fire Zouave style jackets, vievandiere jackets, select Chasseur
jackets, leggings, and such similar special applications.
