GRADE: Our civilian type trousers are manufactured in our "MUSEUM GRADE" standard only and in Woolrich wool. We do not make these trousers in a "Commercial Grade" standard.
PATTERNING These trousers follow a generic pattern based on lines and construction details I have seen on relic Civil War era civilian trousers. There are numerous types of patterning found in original CW era civilian trousers and our repros follow the more generic lines and style.
CONSTRUCTION: These trousers are principally machine sewn but feature hand sewing on the waistband and fly facings, plus hand felling on the cuffs and hand sewn buttonholes. Main pockets are the vertical SIDE SEAM pattern pocket. We DO NOT offer the TOP ENTRY (a.k.a. "mule ear") pattern pocket any longer. Just to mention it as some gentlemen have asked, the side seam pattern pocket is historically correct for civvy trousers as I have seen both TOP ENTRY as well as SIDE SEAM pockets both in hand and in photos of period civilian trousers. Additional options include choice of wool color, type of watch pocket, a rear adjustment option, choice of internal cotton color (on pockets and waistband facings), a button choice of natural bone or black stipple faced tin, and an upper back panel lining (also known as a "curtain") option.
PLEASE SEE THESE PHOTOS which demonstrate some of the options available. These options and their prices are outlined on the order form.
Samples of the our civilian fabrics (solid color only) are available free upon request.
However, please note that several options as outlined on the order form are priced separately.
